Habibou (centre), now 20, with his mother and younger brothers and sisters.
“My family and I were living in a difficult situation in my community. My dad struggled to make ends meet to support our family,” says 20-year-old Habibou.
“My brothers and I were often ill because of the poor quality of the water we drank, and we had no access to education.
Life changed when Habibou was sponsored at age 6.
“As soon as child sponsorship started in Yehi, God gave me the grace to meet a new person who agreed to become my sponsor.
“My wonderful sponsor [the Brenstrum family] gave me the opportunity to discover new experiences through their letters and words of encouragement.
“Since that day, living conditions in my community and family began to get so much better.
Habibou’s mother got the chance to start a market garden.
Sponsors like you helped Habibou’s mum and other women with market-garden plots. Today, his mum grows potatoes, lettuce, peppers, tomatoes and onions to feed their family.
“My mother is also so grateful for the growing space in the market garden that World Vision offered to the women of my community.
“Now she grows several varieties of vegetables, including potatoes, lettuce, peppers, onions and tomatoes to feed our family and earn an income.
“Thanks to this, she can earn income to help my father take care of us. My brothers and sisters and I are now all healthy and well fed, and going to school.”
Habibou’s dream: become an emergency responder to help others.
“Today, I'm in grade 11 of high school and my dream is to become a civil protection agent [an emergency responder] to protect the people around me and contribute to my community.
“Thank you so much to my sponsor and to all World Vision sponsors for the care, prayers and achievements you’ve helped make possible.
“You’ve improved the conditions of my family life and given me the hope to realise my dreams.”
