Lori community in northern Uganda, has become home for thousands of refugees who fled conflict in neighbouring countries. Healthcare remains scarce, and the environment suffers from severe deforestation.

Sponsorship is helping to tackle three big challenges facing children in Lori:
  1. Many students struggle to stay in school or drop out because families can’t afford the costs or need their help at home.
  2. Parents can’t grow enough food or earn enough income to provide for their children’s basic needs.
  3. Severe deforestation is destroying the land families depend on for food, clean water, and a way to make a living.

Partnering together for a sustainable future.

By sponsoring children in the Lori community, you are making an incredible difference in vulnerable children’s lives.

Your support is helping the Lori community by improving the physical, emotional, spiritual and social well-being of the most vulnerable children.

Through decades of experience, we have proven that the most effective way to help a child is to strengthen their entire community, caring for every child along the way. In fact, because of these community-focused solutions, for every child you sponsor, 4 more benefit too!

Together, we are tackling the hard problems, changing mindsets and behaviours to address the root causes of poverty. We’re focusing on building trust and developing a long-term action plan for the Lori community.

Your support will make a life-changing impact for children in Lori.

You’re helping start community reading clubs and train teachers new techniques to help children read.

You’re helping teach farmers sustainable ways to grow more crops and provide business training so they can improve their income.

You’re helping train farmers on climate-smart techniques, like naturally regenerating trees and restoring soil fertility.

“Our classrooms are so crowded. Some pupils of Primary 1 study under the tree, as the tree’s shade provides an additional learning space. The situation usually worsens during rainy seasons.”
- Abdul, Head Teacher

“Children fetch water from here because there is no access to clean water sources in the community. The few water points are overcrowded, so they turn to unsafe alternatives to support their household chores.”
– Ivan, Community Member

“This used to be a forested area, but when refugees settled here, they cut down trees for firewood and grazed their animals. Now the vegetation has been cleared, which has affected the climate pattern, and the community experiences longer dry spells.”
– Dawa, Community Leader

“I want to see people in my community living a healthy and happy life, as a nurse I will treat all the sick people.”

- Haimat, Lori Community Uganda

Lake Victoria, Uganda

Winston Churchill referred to Uganda as the “Pearl of Africa” on his tour there in 1908 and the name has stuck.

Uganda’s dense forests, mountain ranges, lakes and savannas have enticed travellers for decades.

Filled with breath-taking landscapes and an abundance of flora and fauna – including the so-called African big 5 (lions, elephants, leopards, buffalos and rhinos).

Uganda is also home to Lake Victoria, the second biggest lake in the world and one of the sources of the Nile River.
